Frequently Asked Questions
Product Availability
If you live in the United States, Canada or Mexico, you can purchase direct from our Online Store or from one of our select Authorized Dealers. Sorry, we cannot ship outside of North America. For all other areas, please contact one of our many International Dealers.
We never like to be out of stock, so please be assured we’re doing everything we can to build more. Since small-scale manufacturing is often times difficult to predict, we’re not able to give exact availability dates. Sign up for our email newsletter and we’ll send you an email the moment they’re available.
Online Store
The best way to do this is to add a product to your Cart, and enter your postal code on the Cart page. The store will give you a custom shipping quote.
No, sorry, we don't sell blemished pedals.
Unfortunately our international distribution agreements prohibit us from shipping to customers outside of North America. Please view our Dealer List to find a dealer near you.
All Strymon products sold on our online store come with a 15-day money back guarantee. See the full details here.
Yes, for some out of stock products we do accept pre-orders. Please read our pre-order policy. To be notified about availability of any out of stock items, please sign up for our email newsletter!
Unfortunately we aren't really able to give estimated shipping dates for pre-ordered items, other than the estimate that is shown on the product page in the store (usually up to 10 weeks). Pedals ship out as soon as they're built. Thanks so much for your order and support!
Here is more information about pre-orders:
Pre-Order Policy
This means that we have captured your credit card information, but we won't charge your card until your item ships.
Products
All Strymon products are crafted with love in the USA, right in the Los Angeles, California area.
blueSky, Brigadier, El Capistan, Lex, OB.1, Ola, and Orbit are all 4.5" deep x 4" wide x 1.75" tall.
TimeLine is 6.75" wide x 5.1" deep.
Favorite switch is 4.5" deep x 2.4" wide x 1.75" tall.
Yes, they feature high-impedance inputs and accept up to +8dBu, instrument or line level.
Yes! El Capistan, blueSky, Brigadier, and Lex have secondary functions. Download the PDF manuals (listed above) to find out more.
Unplug the power to your pedal. Plug in the power while holding down BYPASS. When the pedal powers on, let go of BYPASS. Repeat this process to go back into non-Trails mode.
We have tested the Moog EP-2, Roland EV-5, Mission Engineering EP-1, and M-Audio EX-P, and they are all compatible. (There may be others but we haven’t tested them yet.)
Check out the user manuals listed to the right, there are quite a few suggested settings there.
There are also a lot of great resources on TheGearPage.net— head on over and you're sure to find someone to help you dial in tones.
Power
All Strymon pedals sold within North America (except OB.1) include a 9VDC 660mA power supply. OB.1 includes a 9V battery.
For El Capistan, Brigadier, blueSky, Lex, Ola and Orbit, we recommend a power supply that provides 9VDC (center negative) at a minimum of 250mA.
TimeLine requires a power supply that provides 9VDC (center negative) at a minimum of 300mA.
For OB.1, we recommend a 9V battery or any 9VDC (center negative) power supply. Some switching supply adapters (1 Spot) have been found to be a bit noisy with OB.1 and are not recommended. Others with additional filtering (Roland) are fine. OB.1 consumes less than 20mA of current.
Do not subject your Strymon pedal to any voltage above 9V. Doing so will damage your pedal and void your warranty.
All pedals (except TimeLine):
You can, but please take these precautions:
First, make sure the dip switch on the bottom of your Pedal Power is set to the NORMAL (9V) position. Do not subject your Strymon pedal to any voltage above 9V. Doing so will damage your pedal and void your warranty.
El Capistan, Brigadier, blueSky, Lex, Ola, and Orbit, require a minimum of 250mA. You will need to use output 5 or 6 on your Pedal Power 2+. OB.1 requires 20mA, so you can use outlets 1 through 4. Make sure to use the Pedal Power 2+, the original Pedal Power 2 does not provide enough mA.
TimeLine:
While TimeLine may operate with a PP2+ under some circumstances we don't recommend it. TimeLine requires 300mA and PP2+ only provides 250mA.
We don't recommend using daisy chain power supplies. Ground loops are commonly caused when using a daisy chain power cable to power multiple pedals. This creates a ground loop between every pedal in the daisy chain. Ground loops allow stray magnetic fields to introduce hum into your signal path.
If the only type of effect you use is distortion you may not have (or hear) the ill effects. But, if you have modulation and delay pedals the likelihood of ground loops wreaking havoc on your signal is high.
If you don't plan on using your Strymon power supply, we recommend an isolated power supply. The Voodoo Labs Pedal Power Digital and Iso-5 are some examples of cost effective, multiple output isolated power supplies. An isolated supply works by using a transformer (or multiple transformers) to keep every power outlet completely electrically isolated.
TimeLine
Yes, it is possible to update TimeLine via MIDI sysex.
The current firmware version is 1.23. The update file and instructions can be downloaded here: TimeLine Firmware Update
To check the firmware version on your TimeLine, power up while holding down the TAP footswitch. Turn the TYPE encoder until REVISN is displayed. Push the TYPE encoder, and the firmware version will be displayed.

Some have asked us for a detailed list of TimeLine's factory preset settings. Here is a PDF that contains info for all of the factory presets. :)
No. TimeLine is a multidimensional digital delay with 12 unique and fully tweakable delay machines. The dTape mode within TimeLine will feature the Single head sliding machine, with full control over each parameter. El Capistan is a dedicated tape echo experience, giving you more in-depth control over tape echo sounds, including the Multi-head modes, Fixed head modes, Sound on Sound, and spring reverb.

Yes, you can connect an external TAP switch to tap tempo remotely. Use a standard TRS cable to connect the external switch to the EXP input on TimeLine. Set the EXP MD global setting to TAP to use external tap.
We do our best to help out in giving advice on MIDI controllers. There are so many different models on the market though that it isn't practical for us to be experts on all of them. Please study the MIDI controller manufacturer's user manual as well as the MIDI section of our manual. Also consider contacting the manufacturer of the MIDI controller if you need more help or information on the capabilities of your particular MIDI controller.
This is on page 23 of the user manual.
The full time looper is controlled by sending MIDI note numbers with a velocity greater than zero.
Record - note 0, velocity > 0
Play - note 2, velocity > 0
Stop - note 4, velocity > 0
Reverse (toggle) - note 14, velocity > 0
Full/Half Speed (toggle) - note 16, velocity > 0
Pre/Post (toggle) - note 17, velocity > 0
We love our customers and value their opinions and input. However, it would obviously be impossible to incorporate every feature or request into a product. All Strymon gear is designed very carefully and with attention to detail to best achieve balance between power and ease of use.
If you want to record to the looper while the delay is bypassed, you'll need to ensure you're in Buffered Bypass mode. If you're in True Bypass, the pedal is being mechanically bypassed, which means the looper doesn't have any input signal to record.
To switch to Buffered Bypass: You can set this in the Globals menu. Select BYPASS, and change to BUFBYP. Alternatively, you can set the last preset you were using to have Delay Persist ON, which essentially turns on Buffered Bypass for that preset. In the Params menu, select PRSIST, and change to ON.
The TimeLine's delay algorithms are computationally complex, and require the full capability of the SHARC processor to run. This presents a challenge regarding spillover, in that an additional processor would be required to run two simultaneous algorithms.
TimeLine enables spillover by recording the wet signal and playing it back when a new patch is selected. When a new patch is selected, the wet signal from the first patch is 'looped' at the first patch's delay time interval, and played back while reducing in level based on the repeats value. In addition, the spillover signal is ramped down over a time period of 4 seconds. By 'looping' the wet signal, spillover can occur without the requirement of two simultaneous processors needed to run two algorithms.
When changing patches, the spillover delay needs to complete its fade-out before the spillover buffer can start recording the new patch's wet signal. This means that switching patches quicker than 4 seconds will result in no spillover.
If the Repeats are set to zero, there will be no spillover signal as the spillover signal is multiplied by the Repeats level. Remember, the dry signal isn't being recorded because that would require an additional processor to produce simultaneous spillover with the new selected patch.
El Capistan
While they're both are delay pedals, El Capistan and Brigadier have very different tonal characteristics and different levels of tweakability. Brigadier is an authentic recreation of analog bucket-brigade style delays. El Capistan is an in-depth recreation of tape echo machines. Two very different styles of delay. Your choice really all depends on the sound you're going for. Check out the sound samples on both the El Capistan and Brigadier websites.
Make sure your El Capistan is in Trails mode. Pressing BYPASS will allow the loop to continue as long as the Repeats are set at maximum. That will allow you to play over the loop without overdubbing.
Time (spring reverb) – 0%
Mix (+/- 3db boost/cut) – 50%
Tape Age (low end contour) – 50%
Repeats (tape bias) – 50%
Wow & Flutter (tape crinkle) – 50%
Pete, our resident Sound Designer thought it would be neat-o to combine the word capstan with El Capitan to create our own word, El Capistan. A capstan is the part of a tape echo machine that helps move the tape through the tape machine. El Capitan is Spanish for the captain. It’s also a 3000ft rock formation in Yosemite National Park here in California. A place where echos are very prominent!
Favorite Switch
This info can be found on Page 5 in the Lex user manual.
The EXP pedal jack input can be used for either an Expression Pedal, an External Speed Switch, or an external Favorite switch. Lex is set up to use an Expression pedal by default. There is a quick power-up procedure to tell your Lex how to assign the EXP jack. You only have to do this once.
- Power down your pedal.
- While holding both TAP and BYPASS at power up, and turn the FAST ROTOR SPEED KNOB:
- Fully counterclockwise for Expression pedal
- Fully clockwise for Favorite switch to save a favorite setting
- To the middle position for external speed switch
- Let go of TAP and BYPASS once you have made your selection.
If you're using the EXP jack for a Favorite switch:
- Press and hold BYPASS to save a new favorite setting.
- Press FAVORITE to engage your favorite setting.
Since the EXP jack is set up to use an Expression pedal by default, there is a quick procedure to tell your pedal that you're using a Favorite switch and not an Expression pedal. You only have to do this once!
- Power down your pedal.
- Set both toggle switches on your pedal to the MIDDLE position.
- While holding both TAP and BYPASS, power up your pedal.
- Let go of TAP and BYPASS once the pedal is on.
Now that your pedal is set up to use a Favorite switch, you can move the toggle switches to whatever settings you like.
- Press and hold BYPASS to save a new favorite setting.
- Press FAVORITE to engage your favorite setting.
If at a later time you want to use an Expression pedal, you will need to set up your pedal to use an Expression pedal. Follow the same procedure as above but power up with both switches in the UP position
OB.1
The DIP switches allow you to select the Treble Shelf Corner and Mid Peak frequencies for the Boost.
Treble: shelf at about 1.5 or 2kHz switchable with internal DIP switches
Mid: peak around 800 or 1.1kHz switchable with internal DIP switches
OB.1 provides greater than 20dB of gain compensated compression. With the integrated clean boost, an extra 10dB of full frequency, mid or treble boost can be achieved.

Annoying legal mumbo jumbo: Any product suggestions made to us become our exclusive property. We won’t have any liability as a result of any similarities that may appear in future Damage Control and Strymon products, and we’ll be entitled to use any submission without compensation to you.
Discontinued Products
Sorry, SVpre has been discontinued, and we’re completely out of stock. We had considered developing an internal tube mod for the Spider Valve MkII amps, though unfortunately we're unable to pursue the development of this specific replacement product.
We have many projects cooking in the Strymon labs, and hope to develop something that would be suitable as a replacement for SVpre. We can't provide details or estimated release dates for products in development. Please keep an eye on our blog and our Facebook page, we'll post new product information there first. Thanks for your understanding.
Artists
We’re a small company without any sort of A&R team. In general we don’t do traditional endorsement deals—we won’t pay artists to use our gear—but we can work with select artists that love using our products. If you’re an artist that is interested in working with us, click here. Please keep in mind that we can only respond to a small number of artists. Thanks so much!
