FAQs

Usage

Yes, Zuma provides automatic worldwide power compatibility (100-240V 50/60Hz), and can be used internationally with the appropriate region-specific IEC cable. The IEC cable is the cable that connects from the wall outlet to the back of Zuma.

Zuma ships with the IEC cable for the region in which it is purchased. If you intend to use Zuma internationally, you will need to purchase the appropriate IEC cable for the region that you will be traveling to.

Zuma provides a total of nine – 9V DC center negative outputs, providing 500mA of current each.  Two of these are adjustable outputs that can be set to 9V (500mA), 12V (375mA), or 18V (250mA).  Pedals can be connected to Zuma with the included 2.1mm x 5.5mm barrel connector cables.  Zuma can power most effects pedals on the market, including all Strymon pedals. However, there are some pedals that have different requirements:

My pedal requires LESS than 500mA of current:

  • It is safe to power your 9V DC pedals that require less than 500mA.  This applies to most effect pedals. Your pedal will only draw the current it needs.

My pedal requires MORE than 500mA of current:

  • You can use a third party CURRENT DOUBLER cable to sum the current of two outputs together to power a single pedal.

My pedal requires 12V DC:

  • You can use either of Zuma’s adjustable outputs set to 12V.

My pedal requires 18V DC:

  • You can use either of Zuma’s adjustable outputs set to 18V.

My pedal requires center-positive polarity:

My pedal requires 15V/24V DC:

  • Zuma provides 9V, 12V, or 18V DC outputs.  24V can be achieved by setting both adjustable outputs to 12V and using a VOLTAGE DOUBLER cable, however, Zuma does not have options to provide 15V.

My pedal requires AC power:

  • Zuma only provides DC power, so it cannot be powered.

****Caution: Providing too much or too little voltage to your pedals can provide undesired performance or even damage your pedals. Please make sure to check with each of your pedals’ manufacturer for recommended voltage, polarity, and current to ensure proper operation and prevent damaging your pedals with incorrect power.****

As Zuma is lightweight at 1.25 lbs, you can use Dual Lock® to mount underneath your pedalboards. When mounted in this manner, place the Zuma upside down with the rear IEC power connection aligned with one of the rear holes for your power connection.

We also offer the Zuma Mounting Kit for compatible Pedaltrain® boards.  These mounting brackets can be used to mount your Zuma underneath your PedalTrain® pedalboard.

These brackets are compatible with:

Pedaltrain PT-3/Pro/Grande
Pedaltrain Novo 18/24/32

Pedaltrain Classic 1/2/Jr/Pro
Pedaltrain Terra 42
Pedaltrain Fly

*Zuma mounting brackets are not compatible with older model Pedaltrain boards (PT-1, PT-2, PT-JR) with holes on the rear brace instead of an open pass through for the length of the board. For those boards, we recommend affixing Zuma to your board with Dual-Lock®.

Linking

With Zuma, you can add more power outputs to your power supply by linking Strymon Ojai or Ojai R30 units to Zuma’s 24V output allowing your power to grow with your pedalboard.

To connect Ojai units to Zuma:

  1. Power your Zuma from the wall outlet with the included IEC power cable.
  2. Connect one end of Ojai’s included EIAJ-05 power adapter cable to the 24V OUT on your Zuma.
  3. Connect the other end of the EIAJ-05 power adapter cable to the 24V IN of your Ojai.
  4. Link additional Ojai units by connecting one end of the EIAJ-05 cable to the 24V THRU to the 24V IN on the next Ojai in the chain.

Please read this FAQ for info on how many pedals can be powered when linking Ojai units.

You can link as many as 6 Ojai and/or Ojai R30 units to your Zuma, powering up to 39 effects pedals.  While it’s unlikely that anyone would go to such extremes, we wanted to ensure Zuma delivers maximum flexibility and expandability.  A much more likely scenario would be to link 1 or 2 Ojai units to your Zuma, powering a combination of up to 19 high and low current draw pedals.
