Yes, Zuma provides automatic worldwide power compatibility (100-240V 50/60Hz), and can be used internationally with the appropriate region-specific IEC cable. The IEC cable is the cable that connects from the wall outlet to the back of Zuma.
Zuma ships with the IEC cable for the region in which it is purchased. If you intend to use Zuma internationally, you will need to purchase the appropriate IEC cable for the region that you will be traveling to.
Zuma provides a total of nine – 9V DC center negative outputs, providing 500mA of current each. Two of these are adjustable outputs that can be set to 9V (500mA), 12V (375mA), or 18V (250mA). Pedals can be connected to Zuma with the included 2.1mm x 5.5mm barrel connector cables. Zuma can power most effects pedals on the market, including all Strymon pedals. However, there are some pedals that have different requirements:
My pedal requires LESS than 500mA of current:
It is safe to power your 9V DC pedals that require less than 500mA. This applies to most effect pedals. Your pedal will only draw the current it needs.
My pedal requires MORE than 500mA of current:
You can use a third party CURRENT DOUBLER cable to sum the current of two outputs together to power a single pedal.
My pedal requires 12V DC:
You can use either of Zuma’s adjustable outputs set to 12V.
My pedal requires 18V DC:
You can use either of Zuma’s adjustable outputs set to 18V.
Zuma provides 9V, 12V, or 18V DC outputs. 24V can be achieved by setting both adjustable outputs to 12V and using a VOLTAGE DOUBLER cable, however, Zuma does not have options to provide 15V.
My pedal requires AC power:
Zuma only provides DC power, so it cannot be powered.
****Caution: Providing too much or too little voltage to your pedals can provide undesired performance or even damage your pedals. Please make sure to check with each of your pedals’ manufacturer for recommended voltage, polarity, and current to ensure proper operation and prevent damaging your pedals with incorrect power.****
As Zuma is lightweight at 1.25 lbs, you can use Dual Lock® to mount underneath your pedalboards. When mounted in this manner, place the Zuma upside down with the rear IEC power connection aligned with a clear path for the IEC cable to pass through. Make sure to check clearance for the IEC cable before mounting.
We also offer the Zuma Mounting Kit for compatible Pedaltrain® boards. These mounting brackets can be used to mount your Zuma underneath your PedalTrain® pedalboard.
Pedaltrain Novo 18/24/32 Pedaltrain Classic 1/2/Jr/Pro Pedaltrain Terra 42
*Zuma mounting brackets are not compatible with older model Pedaltrain boards (PT-1, PT-2, PT-JR) with holes on the rear brace instead of an open pass through for the length of the board. For those boards, we recommend affixing Zuma to your board with Dual-Lock®.
You can link as many as 6 Ojai and/or Ojai R30 units to Zuma, powering up to 39 effects pedals. While it’s unlikely that anyone would go to such extremes, we wanted to ensure Zuma delivers maximum flexibility and expandability. A much more likely scenario would be to link 1 or 2 Ojai units to Zuma, powering a combination of up to 19 high and low current draw pedals.
Ojai and Ojai R30 Expansion Kits consist of an isolated power distributor and all of the necessary connection cables to integrate it with your existing Strymon power supply and power up to five additional effects pedals.
Expansion Kits require an existing Strymon power product which connects to an AC power outlet, either directly (Zuma, Zuma R300) or via an external power adapter (Ojai R30, Ojai). Simply link an Expansion Kit to your existing Strymon power product via the 24V jack.
Expansion Kits include:
Five (5) 2.1mm x 5.5mm pedal cables – 18” long, right angle to right angle barrel connectors
EIAJ-05 link cable – 18″ long to connect Ojai to PS-124 or Zuma/Zuma R300 power supply
If you are getting noise from your power supply after introducing Zuma to your pedalboard setup which was powered by a different power supply, this typically means that there is likely a grounding problem with the connections in your signal chain. Some power supplies can hide grounding issues that affect your tone without realizing it.
If, after introducing Zuma to your pedalboard, you are getting noise in your audio signal, we recommend testing the continuity of each of the cables in your signal chain (mainly sleeve-to-sleeve) to determine where they may be a loss of a ground connection in your signal chain that could create this noise.
