My first real job was assistant to the head of music videos at Geffen Records. It was a glorious era for music videos. Music videos had a home with MTV, and creativity was abounding with artists like Beck, Guns N’ Roses, Weezer, Aerosmith, Madonna, The Beastie Boys, and so many more. Classic videos were being made one after another. Luckily, we now have new outlets online. YouTube and Vimeo have provided another opportunity for videos to shine. Here are some that we thought you’d enjoy.
The animated music video directed and animated by Steve Smith for the song “Medic” by Longfellow has a feel-good message of helping others out.
Creative, obscure, mysterious, and intriguing are words that describe this video and song by The Auralab for me, which is right up my alley.
This visually delightful video by Jessica Plummer perfectly compliments the song “Secondhand Valentine” by Elenna Sindler and Brian Sindler.
The beauty of music videos is that they don’t need to be linear or tell a complete story or to compliment the song. This video directed by Max Firinu for the song “Erased + Deleted” by Kentin Jivek reminds me of a dream.
Many artists have done the classic “band playing video” and those are always nice in their own right. You get a sense of the band and you get to enjoy seeing the passion in their performances. Here is Cemetery Sun with “Wish It Was Love,” directed by Redwall Studios.
Our very own marketing nerd Ethan just recently released a new music video for his song Betamax. You can read more about it here.
