We feel blessed to live and work so close to a beautiful coast with great views of the Pacific Ocean.
As many of you know we named our Zuma Power Supply after Zuma beach in Malibu. The first people to live in Malibu were the Chumash Indians, and the name “Zuma” comes from the Chumash word for “abundance.”
When we heard World Ocean Day was coming up in June we knew this would be a wonderful opportunity to give a little back to the ocean we love so much. We decided that we would give a donation of some of the sales of Zuma from June 8th to Coastal Clean up day on September 21st to the California Wildlife Center.
The California Wildlife Center is involved in protecting all California Wildlife but focuses a great amount of their resources on helping the Sea Lions and Sea Birds in Malibu. I have been fortunate enough to several times witness them rescuing a starving or stranded Sea Lion off the of the Malibu shores.
We also had a great day on September 21st joining Heal The Bay and California Wildlife Center for their yearly Coastal Clean Up event. We went to Leo Carillo State Beach with a 100 other volunteers and combed the beach to pick up thousands of little plastic pieces which are commonly found in sea birds stomachs, cigarette butts, lots of food wrappers and a few random items, folding chairs and metal tiki torch stands. One of the interesting aspects of the Coastal Clean up event is they also have an underwater cleanup volunteer crew. This group scuba dives along the coast and cleans up debris on the bottom of the ocean. It was great to see them all heading into the water.
Most thrilling is we are excited to deliver a check to California Wildlife Center for $1500 this October. We will take some pictures and post them on our Instagram and Facebook when we get the opportunity to visit them and their facility.
Thank you to all that participated with us and to our 2 winners of their very own Zuma Power Supply: Ray Prestegard and Flavia Messinese.
