Volante Firmware Update v1.10

We always work hard to improve the experience our customers have with our products. The release notes below list the new features we’ve added to Volante and issues we’ve resolved.  Download the Strymon Update software to update the firmware on your Volante.

Volante Firmware REV v1.10 (Released February 2019)

What’s changed?

  • SOS looper no longer auto-records and closes the loop without pressing the SPLICE footswitch.

What’s fixed?

  • Delay repeats heard very quietly in the background when bypassed.
  • Volante was not responding to MIDI clock via the USB port when MIDI Clock is enabled.
  • Anti-aliasing added to avoid noise in audio when using half speed when pedals with charge pump components are in the signal chain before Volante.
  • Additional under-the-hood fixes.

  1. Hi!
Can I somehow use an expression pedal to control parameters on my Volante with my multiswitch + connected to volantes exp jack?
    Best regards,
    Anders

    1. Hey Anders! There is no way to use both an expression pedal and MS+ at the same time.

You can use MIDI to control presets if you want to have an expression pedal and change presets at the same time.

If you have any more questions, please email [email protected]!

      Thanks,

      Gohan

  2. Hi guys,
Nice improvements for an awesome delay! The colour it gives is fantastic. It will be possible in the future to use Volante as “Colourbox” ? Without any head enabled but with distortion? Thanks!

    1. @Matteo Fabbri – Thanks for the feedback! Volante was not necessarily designed for that purpose so I don’t see something like that coming out any time soon.

  3. Is there any chance that we could get the tape age control like the el capistan has on the volante maybe as an secondary function via a firmware update?

  4. Hello, I love this pedal great job! I have a few suggestions and questions.

The SOS mode is nice but I would prefer if it was more like a looper. Maybe this can happen with something I believe could be a simple tweak of the firmware… Reverse the toggle and hold commands of the reverse switch and make the infinite loop a default entering.
    In detail:
    PAUSE switch stays the same
SPLICE switch stays the same (starts, ends, and deletes loop) but after ending loop it enters infinite mode by default (as if I held reverse switch right after finishing loop)
REVERSE switch now toggles infinite loop (making it a punch in/out function) and holding it starts reverse playback (maybe with a latch option so it reverses playback only while held down but that is not essential)

I find this layout more intuitive and useful, it just makes more sense to me.
Make it at least as an optional “Looper mode” firmware update… Please 🙂 Thank you

Can loop continue playback even after exiting SOS mode and/or be out of delay send?
Is it possible to make the loop be stored and called on 8 playback/feedback switches?

    1. Hi Milan! Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us 🙂

While I cannot promise that we’d implement these changes, I’m happy to share your requests with the team.

Feel free to email us with any more questions or concerns at [email protected].

      Take care!

      1. Thanks Gohan,
        just wanted to correct myself…

when I asked “Can loop … be out of delay send?”, I meant: out of reverb send, so loops are recorded with the dialed-in amount of reverb.
Loop record head already is after delay but it needs to be after reverb too

Btw is there any feedback from the team about these suggestions?

        Thanks again!

        1. Hey Milan, thanks for clarifying! No word at this moment — please stay tuned to the firmware page and social media for any further updates.

          Thanks!

          1. Thanks, I will 😉 …but just one more thing if you do decide to give this a try…

I’m not sure if delay type and parameters: low cut, wear, and mechanics affect loop recording? but if they do, studio type with those parameters on 0 (or bypassed) should be a default for loop recording this way.

…and to point out that adding a possibility to store/recall loops on playback/feedback switches (and then possibly go up and down with multiswitch) would make this a very, very powerful looper and by far the most versatile, hi-quality pedal ever…
            Please consider this.

            All best!

  5. Will there be another firmware update for the volante in general?

… a tape age control (like on the el capistan) would be super cool. would make the pedal twice as good as it is now. you are doing a great job!

    1. Hi, Unfortunately we don’t discuss what might be or might not be in the works, but we love hearing what you’d be interested in 🙂

  6. Hello!
..it’s a shame that the loop is not 16 seconds, but 17.23 seconds. (same with 32 seconds and 64 seconds)

  7. Hi! I love my Volante, but I find the spring to be a bit bright. It would be lovely if Wear also rolled off the top of the reverb.

    Cheers!

  8. I’m wondering if your engineers would want to give the Volante another boost in popularity by quietly making available a stereo rotary (or st phaser) effect just ahead of the stereo repeats. Maybe to be switched on via midi # or footswitch. Then leslie/phaser rotation can be sync’d with the “drum” speed (in phase, out of phase, 90deg, fast/slow, etc), and all the repeats are phased differently from the dry they’re piling up on to really make Volante trippy.

  9. Posting here since others might be interested in this question. I’ve been using the SOS to great affect- but one thing that I’d like to get a work around or some ideas- when turning off SOS, it abrumptly quits the loop and there is silence before going back to normal delay mode. I’d like the SOS to fade out or something similar when leaving that mode so it eases into the normal delay mode again. Any thoughts? Thank you all!
